108 Handwritten Pages and Counting

First, I should probably get you up to speed.  I am 108 handwritten pages into my novel.  I have to squeeze my writing time in between a full time job, a family, and, well, life in general.  I write on my lunch hour.  I write when everyone else is asleep.  I jot down bits and snippets on the back of napkins and envelopes.  I am one of "those" people.

My goal is to write for at least an hour a day.  I estimate that I can get about three handwritten pages out of it.  I don't type it out on the computer because I can steal more writing time this way.  At some point, when I am further along, or perhaps even finished with my first draft, I will type it all out (revising along the way).

I want to have the book available on Kindle within the year.  The blog title only mentions one year because, quite honestly, "Sometime Under One Year Until my Book is Available on Kindle" is a bit cumbersome to type and doesn't sound nearly as appealing (albeit more truthful).

So, here is where I will mark my progress, vent my frustration, and (hopefully!) garner some encouragement.  You will find out more about the books subject matter.  I might include rough ideas, character names, and snippets.  I will also keep you updated on when it is finally available!

  2. Best of luck to you. I'm working on a novel myself, so it will be interesting to read about your journey.

I'd be curious to hear why you chose (what sounds like) the self-publishing route. And do you plan on hiring a professional editor, cover designer, etc.?

  3. I am glad you stopped by! I love being able to connect with other writers! To answer your questions: While I am certainly not adverse to the "traditional" route to publication, I have done a lot of research, and I want to go a different route with this project. I plan to make it available on Kindle and with Barnes & Noble once I have it completed. I am talking to several artist friends of mine and discussing the cover art, etc. There are so many reasons that resonated with me for going this route, that I decided to take the plunge. I will talk more about those here as well. (And I will let you know in about a year whether or not it was a good idea!)

  4. Looking forward to see your posts. My wife just finished her first novel and now we're working together on a mystery story while I peck away at my first adventure novel.

I'm trying something similar to this blog, except that since I have atrocious handwriting and tend to re-think everything five times I am typing everything and posting seven pages a week to my blog.

  6. Chris, I am so glad you are joining me here! I will try not to overwhelm everyone with all the ideas and characters and scenes that are rattled around in my mind, but no promises!

Andrew, it is a relief to have fellow writers here...I am hoping that means that you will be sympathetic and sigh in commiseration when you think, "Good grief, so she is clearly at THAT part of the book."
